Split PDF by page range

Pull out exactly the page ranges you need from a long PDF, with range syntax that supports multiple non-contiguous sections.

Your 180-page contract has three sections you actually need to send to legal — the schedule (pages 14-22), the indemnity clause (pages 67-71), and the signatures (pages 178-180). They want each as a separate file.

Range-based splitting is exactly this. Here's how Flint handles it.

Type the ranges, get the files

Open split PDF, drop your 180-page file, and switch to range mode. Type '14-22, 67-71, 178-180' in the range field. Flint creates three output PDFs — one per range. Download them individually or as a ZIP. The original stays intact.

Range syntax that actually works

Use hyphens for ranges and commas to separate ranges: '1-5, 8, 12-20'. Single page numbers are valid. Negative offsets count from the end ('-3' is the third-from-last page). Open-ended ranges work: '50-' means page 50 to the end. Brackets aren't needed and Flint ignores any whitespace.

Naming the outputs

Default filenames include the range — 'contract-pages-14-22.pdf' and so on. You can rename in your downloads folder, or set a custom prefix in Flint before splitting. For lots of small ranges, a consistent prefix keeps things searchable later.

When you want a single file with non-contiguous pages

Range mode produces one PDF per range. If you instead want pages 14-22, 67-71, and 178-180 combined into a single PDF, use extract pages in 'combine into one' mode, or split first and then merge the results. The first is one step.

FAQ

What if my range exceeds the document length?

Flint clips silently to the actual length. '170-200' on a 180-page doc gives you 170-180.

Can I split AND extract simultaneously?

Yes — range mode does exactly that. Each range becomes its own file extracted from the original.

Does it preserve bookmarks within the range?

Bookmarks pointing at extracted pages are kept and remapped. Bookmarks pointing outside the range are dropped (no target).

Maximum ranges per split?

We've tested hundreds. No practical limit.

Type ranges, get files. Split by range and move on.
