Redact account numbers from PDF

Account numbers redacted at every occurrence — find-and-redact patterns for bank, credit card, and ID numbers.

You're sending a deal memo to investors. It references your bank account number for the escrow. The investors need to see the deal, not your account.

Redacting account numbers across multiple occurrences in one PDF is a find-and-redact job.

Find and redact by pattern

Open redact PDF, drop the file. Switch to 'find and redact' mode. Enter the account number you want gone. Flint searches every page, marks every occurrence. Apply redaction. The number is removed everywhere in one pass.

Pattern matching for common formats

If you want to redact all occurrences of a pattern (any IBAN, any card number), use regex mode. Common patterns: '[A-Z]{2}[0-9]{2}[A-Z0-9]{1,30}' for IBAN-like strings. 'XXXX[ -]XXXX[ -]XXXX[ -]XXXX' for card formats. Flint catches every match.

Verify what got redacted

Apply redaction, then scroll through the document. Marked areas show as black boxes. Try to copy text from a redacted region — you should get nothing. If any account number appears unredacted, you missed a variant (different formatting); search again.

Don't forget hidden places

Account numbers can hide in metadata, file properties, comments, or annotations. Use edit PDF to inspect metadata. Clear annotations if they contain sensitive data. Form fields too — open the form view and check each field.

FAQ

Will the redaction be visible to recipients?

Yes — black bars. They'll see redacted content was there, which is usually fine. If you want invisible removal, the document structure changes and that's a different operation.

Can I check post-redaction with copy-paste?

Yes, and you should. Try to copy the redacted region — if you get the original number, redaction didn't actually strip the content.

What about scanned PDFs?

For scanned (image-only) PDFs, account numbers are part of the image. Drag a box over the image region — Flint blacks out that image area.

Multiple different account numbers in one file?

Find-and-redact each one, or use regex to catch them as a pattern. Apply all redactions in one save.

Find, mark, verify. Redact account numbers.
