Merge receipts into one PDF

Expense reports done right: receipts in date order, in one tidy PDF, ready for finance.

3 min readMerge receipts

Twelve days of conference travel. You have receipts on your phone (JPGs), receipts emailed to you (PDFs), and one paper receipt you scanned in a panic at the airport. Finance wants one PDF in chronological order.

Flint takes mixed formats in one go.

Gather, then sequence

Pull all your receipts into one folder. Renaming them with dates ('2026-03-04-hotel.pdf', '2026-03-04-dinner.jpg') makes the next step trivial because Flint loads in filename order. If you can't rename, no problem — you'll sequence visually after dropping them in.

Drop into Flint, drag to reorder

Open merge PDF, drag the whole folder onto the page. Thumbnails appear for every PDF and image. If they're not in order, drag the cards into chronological sequence. The thumbnails are big enough to read the date on most receipts at a glance.

Add the airport scan

Got a folded receipt you photographed quickly? Drop it in. If it's at a weird angle, click the rotate icon on its card. If it's massive and the merged file will be huge, compress it first or compress the whole merged file at the end.

Name and submit

Save as 'Smith-March-2026-Expenses.pdf' or whatever your finance team expects. If your portal has a size limit, compress the merged PDF — typically drops file size by 80% with no visible quality loss on receipt images.

FAQ

Does it matter if some receipts are JPG and some PDF?

Not at all. Flint treats them the same, merges them into one PDF.

What about receipts in email body, not as attachments?

Screenshot or print-to-PDF the email, then add to the merge.

Can I add notes to each receipt?

Yes, annotate the merged PDF to add a sticky note or text comment per receipt.

Is there a faster way for monthly recurring expenses?

Same flow, just save a template filename pattern. Flint isn't a workflow tool, but the merge itself takes 30 seconds.

Receipts in, expense report out. Merge receipts and get on with your week.
