Convert PDF to JPG at High Quality

Picking DPI matters more than picking a converter. Here's how to land on the right number.

You need JPGs of every page in a PDF — for a website, a presentation, a print run. The default conversion looks fuzzy. The HD conversion is 80MB. Somewhere in between is what you want.

DPI is the single biggest setting

DPI (dots per inch) controls how many pixels are rendered per inch of PDF page. 150dpi is web-quality — fine on screens, soft when printed. 300dpi is print-quality — good for any output. 600dpi is archival-quality — huge files, mostly overkill.

Flint's PDF to JPG lets you pick. Most users want 300dpi; for web-only use, 150 is plenty.

JPG compression

Beyond DPI, JPG has a compression slider — quality 80–90 looks identical to the source for most content while keeping files reasonable. Quality 100 doubles file size for no visible gain. Quality 60 starts showing artefacts on text edges.

When in doubt, leave the converter at its default. Most output is good for general use.

Text rendering

Text is the trickiest content for JPG. Crisp typography needs higher DPI (300+) or it gets soft. If a page is text-heavy and you need it readable at small sizes, consider PNG instead — PNG handles sharp edges better. Reserve JPG for photo-heavy pages.

File size management

A 10-page PDF at 300dpi as JPGs can be 30MB+. If you need smaller, drop to 200dpi or use higher JPG compression. If you need much smaller, compress the PDF first and convert from the compressed version — both file size and processing time improve.

FAQ

What DPI for Instagram or web?

150dpi is plenty for most web display. Going higher just slows page loads.

What DPI for print?

300dpi is the print standard. Most printers won't show improvement above 300 unless you're doing large-format work.

Will tiny text be readable?

At 300dpi yes; at 150dpi small body text can soften. Bump DPI or consider PNG.

Can I do it page by page?

Yes — Flint produces one JPG per page automatically, downloadable as a zip.
